STORY
Turkish coffee culture and tradition date back to the 16th century when coffee began to be served in coffee shops in Istanbul. Turkish coffee is not only a drink, but also a social work that brings together cultural gaps, social values and beliefs to decry socialization. With its profound influence on the Turkish way of life, Turkish coffee plays a central role in culture as a sign of hospitality and friendship. In addition, Turkish delight, which is indispensable in the presentation of coffee, is also important. There are different opinions about when Turkish delight was first produced. But it is certain that the history of Turkish delight dates back to Anatolia, to the time of the Ottoman Empire. So much so that lokum, which is called as ‘’Turkish Delight’’ all over the world, is called ‘’Rahat ul-hulkum’’ in Ottoman language. Thus, the importance of hospitality in Turkish culture is more clearly understood. For the incoming guest, service containers such as coffee cups, presentation plates and the container for Turkish Delight specially prepared for the guests were used, not the pots that they used for themselves at home. Families with good financial situation would be more meticulous about this. For guests, they preferred pots made of silver or rarely gold to make the product they bought more flashy and valuable.
