STORY
The history of pistols in the Ottoman Empire showed important developments. The process that started with firearms learned from Europe and the Arab world in the 14th century progressed with the production of gunpowder pistols in the 15th century. Ottoman army has demonstrated its strength by providing effective pistol use and quality weapon production with local artisans in the 16th and 18th century. However, at the end of the 19th century, the economic and political difficulties could not be dealt with, the arms industry declined, and modernization remained backward. As a result, the weakening of the defense capability left the Ottoman Empire facing internal and external threats. Ottoman pistols have an important place in terms of understanding the evolution of military technology.
