STORY
The end of the 19th century and the uniform worn by French Artillery Officers during World War I was similar to that of other officers of the French army, but had its own characteristics. It usually featured navy or dark blue colored jackets, red collars and gold embroidered buttons. There were epaulettes on the shoulders, medals on the chest and stripes indicating ranks. The uniform, completed with a cap or various hats, reflected military formalities and at the same time symbolized power and authority. Throughout World War I, French Artillery Officers continued to wear this traditional uniform on the battlefield and in garrisons, but over time changes were made in accordance with the conditions of the war.
